Designing Spaces for Children

To us, nothing beats the sparkle of excitement in children’s eyes. Safe to say: we absolutely love designing for children.

There is something profoundly joyful about creating spaces that nurture curiosity, imagination, and a sense of belonging: places where children can explore, create, and feel safe all at once.

But our philosophy goes beyond cute animal décor and fleeting trends. We believe that children’s spaces should evolve with them. The task is to design with intention so that, with only small edits, they can grow and transform as the child does.

Spaces That Grow With Them

Too often, nurseries and playrooms are designed for a very short moment in time - bright, themed, and full of items that lose their purpose as a child grows. At AD Design, we approach it differently.

We design with longevity and adaptability in mind.

A nursery, for example, can later become a creative studio, an office, or a reading and study room. A playroom can evolve from a space for building blocks and imaginative games into a space for learning, reflection, or crafts; all while maintaining the same thoughtful foundation. Good design doesn’t expire. It adapts.

A Playroom with Purpose - One Room, Many Worlds

For one of our clients, we developed a concept for a 22-square-meter basement space dedicated to their children - a true example of multifunctional design. The family wanted a room that was not only fun and inspiring but also purposeful.

The brief was unique: the space had to combine

  • Weekly Islamic learning and reflection,

  • Sportive movement and play, and

  • Calm, cosy corners for reading and quiet time.

We approached it like a world within a room; dividing zones not with walls, but with subtle visual and textural cues. Soft rugs, floor cushions, and warm lighting created peaceful corners for study and reading, while open zones with durable flooring encouraged movement and play.

Natural materials, low furniture, and balanced colours that don’t lean to any gender made the space both grounding and inviting.

Designing with Heart

Children’s spaces are deeply emotional. They are where first memories are formed, where creativity is fostered, and where sense of safety take root.

We see it as our responsibility and joy to design them with care, love, and the flexibility to grow along with the child’s life.

Because the best children’s rooms are not just designed for today. They are designed for every stage of childhood and beyond.

Let’s Create Their World!

Whether you’re expecting a new arrival or want to reimagine your child’s playroom into a space that inspires learning and calm, AD Design can help you design a room that grows gracefully with your family. Contact us to add that sparkle of joy.
